GAME RULES & PLAYER CONDUCT

The league rules are MHSAA basketball rules with some exceptions*.

  1. The first six (6) non-active shooting fouls in each half are taken on the sidelines. The seventh (7) foul to the ninth (9) foul will result in a one and one free throw. Tenth (10) foul and on will be an automatic two (2) free throws. Free throws are played off the release.

  2. Every player is allowed 6 fouls and is fouled out upon receiving his 6th foul.

  3. Two (2) free throws are given for a technical foul, two (2) technical fouls to a player will result in an ejection. This also applies to coaches. The team that had last possession of the ball before the technical retains possession.

  4. In the beginning of the game there is a tip off to determine possession of the ball, the team that losses the tip, meaning relinquishing position, has the possession arrow. At the beginning of the 2nd half, the team that has the possession arrow in their favor has the ball to start. In case of an overtime, a tip off will determine ball position.

  5. Any verbal abuse from a player to a player, or from a player to an official will not be tolerated; technical fouls will be given to the guilty party and action will be taken as seen fit by the official. This also applies to any person's sitting on the team's bench. If a player receives two technical fouls, he will be ejected, asked to leave the building and suspended for the next game.

  6. Each team will be allowed to seat one (1) person on their bench that is not on the roster (ex: coach), but each team is responsible for that person. The team can receive technical fouls for any outbreaks from this person.

  7. The league captains will handle any and all physical/verbal incidents. Depending on the significance of each incident, a suitable punishment will be assessed.

  8. One (1) player from each team will be designated as the team captain and is permitted to speak to the officials. Any player found arguing a call made by an official, and is not the designated captain will receive a technical.

  9. Each team must start with four (4) players at the beginning of the game, but can continue if their 4th player is fouled out of ejected. In the unlikelihood of a team left with less than four players on the court, the team then forfeits the game.

  10. Players must conduct themselves in an orderly fashion both on and off the court. Those players that are on the sidelines must behave in an orderly fashion or face disciplinary actions against them. If participants in the league are not playing in a game, they should remain as professional as possible. Any players found taunting others can and will be suspended.

  11. If a game is tied at the end of regulation, a five (5) minute overtime period will be provided, and continues until a winner is determined. Fouls and timeout situation at the end of regulation will be as follows: both teams will be given a timeout, and each team continues their foul situation from the previous half.

  12. Each team will be given 2 timeouts during each half and does not carry over to the other half.

  13. Two 22 minute halves (NEW RULES as of Spring Session 2008).

End of first half: The clock will stop when there is a 30 seconds or less on the game clock when there is a dead ball/whistle blown (independent of score).

End of second half: THe clock will stop when there are 2 minutes or less on the game clock when there is a dead ball/whistle blown (only when the difference in score is 10 points or less). The clock will not stop if the difference in score is 11 points or greater.

  14. Trades are allowed through week 4.

  15. No captain is allowed ANY player as a substitute from a team that plays the game immediately after them, regardless of who is ok with it or not.

    For example,

subs allowed for the 8:30 game can only be taken from players playing the 10:30 game. subs allowed for the 9:30 game can only be taken from players playing the 8:30 game. subs allowed for the 10:30 game can be taken from players playing the 8:30 or the 9:30 game.
